“Wake Up” Wednesday Health Report

Good morning!

All you need to know is that 58% of state aid goes to 5% of school districts. That's a staggering number and a clear indicator that things need to change. Is a flat dollar amount formula per head the right answer? Not completely in my opinion, but I LOVE that it starts the conversation the right way. As a state, we continue to fund urban school districts that, quite frankly, continue to not perform. Those kids need more than school dollars. They need home dollars. They need urban redevelopment dollars. But that's part two of the conversation (or is it part one actually?). Regardless, what's on the books now clearly isn't working, so let's try something else!
